WHO: We are Buell Steelman and Rebecca Sams. Our more than twenty five years combined experience in the landscape design/build profession and our passion for creating great gardens are evident in our work. We are both graduates of the University of Texas at Austin. We began our careers at Gardens, a groundbreaking landscape architecture design/build firm in Texas. In 2002, we moved to Eugene and created Mosaic. In 2011, after the success of our beautiful project at the coast, we decided to make our second home and office in Coos Bay. When not building gardens, we work in our own space, play with our dogs, cook with the incredible food of the Willamette Valley and explore the wilderness of Oregon and beyond.

WHAT: Mosaic Gardens is a landscape design/build company. We believe that the garden design process begins with a scaled drawing and continues through every detail and decision during construction. By designing spaces intended for our installation and building our own designs, we provide a seamless process with a cohesive, beautiful product. We are licensed landscape contractors (OLCB # 8508) and offer a full range of services, including stonework, carpentry, irrigation, planting, lighting and many more. In order to provide exceptional quality and attention to detail while maintaining a small ecological footprint, we are an intentionally small company. The principals work hands-on in each stage of construction with one or two employees.

HOW: We work to establish excellent communication and relationships with our clients, and we take pride in building gardens that are on time and on budget. Our designs integrate your aesthetic, the character of your site and our knowledge with the goal of creating a garden that exceeds your expectations. In all phases of construction, we provide singular quality and craftsmanship. The daily involvement of the principals ensures that every aspect of the garden is built with the long-term beauty and function of your garden in mind. We are known for our planting designs, which reflect not just our passion for plants, but the varied styles and lifestyles of our clients. In all of our work, we do our best to minimize waste, water, power and fuel use, and we use many local, natural and organic sources.

WHERE: Our offices are in Eugene and Coos Bay, but we are happy to travel for a great project. We are licensed to construct projects throughout Oregon, and we have designed and built gardens from Portland to the Oregon coast. Work in other states is considered on a case-by-case basis.
